When Alexis “Lexi” Moreau caught her husband, Jeff, sampling the sous-chef’s more intimate wares in their New York restaurant, she ran—all the way back to her hometown of St. Helena, California. Six months later, Lexi has no husband and no restaurant. But she does have a three-step plan: First, convert her grandmother’s bakery into her dream bistro. Second, ignore Grandma’s matchmaking attempts. And third, avoid Marco DeLuca, her ex’s commitment-phobic, distractingly sexy best friend.
In school Lexi was off-limits for Marco. After all, she was his buddy’s girl. But she’s still as smart and as gorgeous—and apparently as immune to his charms—as she used to be. Yet the simple fake romance they agree upon to dodge Lexi’s grandmother’s matchmaking plans soon turns deliciously complicated. And the sultry summer might bring together all the right ingredients for Marco to win the only woman he’s ever wanted.

From Library Journal
Blindsided when she catches her husband cheating with their restaurant's sous chef, restaurateur Alexis Moreau leaves the Big Apple, worms and all, and heads home to St. Helena in California's Napa Valley to heal and to begin again. Her new dream is to turn her grandmother's floundering bakery into a classy bistro. The challenge? To make it happen while avoiding her grandmother's matchmaking ploys. What Lexi needs is time to get things on track, and dating losers (e.g., Mr. Monday lunch, Mr. Tuesday dinner) is soaking up way too much of it. So when her high school buddy (and her ex's best friend) Marco DeLuca needs to get ready for a major wine-tasting event and suggests a fake relationship—also announcing it on Facebook—Lexi agrees, never thinking that Marco would actually turn out to be her Mr. Every Day. VERDICT: Major sexual electricity, zingy humor, some meddlesome but well-meaning grandmothers, and a pair of protagonists who spar beautifully add up to another lively addition in an engaging series. Adair (Kissing Under the Mistletoe) lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California.

Marina Adair Has A Formula - And It works!
By Lloyd Russell - The Book Sage
On February 2 of this year, I wrote a review of Marina Adair's Kissing Under The Mistletoe. I gave it a 3.0, thought it was solid entertainment. Now she's back with her 2nd book in the St. Helena Vineyards Series (also a 3.0, also solid). Marina has a formula that works. The DeLuca's are a big wine-growing family in St. Helena. In book 1, a woman leaves a bad relationship and comes to St. Helena. She ends up with the oldest of the DeLuca boys. In book 2, Summer in Napa, guess what happens? Give up? That's right. A woman leaves a bad relationship, comes to St. Helena, and...yeah, I'm not going to tell you. Suffice it to say that there are similarities in the 2 books.
Lexi Moreau and her husband own a restaurant in New York. They're struggling to make a go of it, but this is Lexi's dream, and she intends to make it work. Then, Lexi walks in on her husband and the sous chef (she's a she) discussing more than the next day's menu. Lexi, heartbroken, comes back to St. Helena, her hometown. Her grandmother has a bakery, and Lexi is going to convert it into a bistro.
What she doesn't count on is her grandmother fixing her up with countless (not really, but a lot of) dates. To stop the onslaught, Marco DeLuca, who is her husband's best friend and who Lexi knows very well (platonically) from their high school days, offers to act as her boyfriend (platonically). Need I go on?
Here's the deal. It doesn't matter that you know what's going to happen. And I've said this before. It's a romance. They're supposed to get together for crying out loud. What matters is that you care about Lexi and Marco. You boo Lexi's husband. You cringe when the woman obsessed with Marco is scorned and seeks revenge. These things are okay. I have read many books (I just finished one over the weekend) where you don't know what's going to happen - and you don't really care. I definitely cared about these 2.
Besides the romance, there are other elements of the book that I really enjoyed. Lexi's grandmother and her semi-elderly, nosy, meddlesome friends are a hoot. In the 1st book, the female protagonist has a 5-year old daughter who is absolutely adorable. In this one, Marco has a dog called Wingman (great name, don't you think?), who gets quite a bit of story time. And even though you all know I'm not a dog person, I enjoyed Wingman's antics. Finally, Marina has the ability to take a romance and inject a lot of humor without diminishing the story. I got a bunch of chuckles from Summer in Napa.
I like my mysteries and my ex-CIA, ex-Mossad guys; my Mitch Rapp's, my Gabriel Allon's, and my Jack Reacher's. I like my historical fiction - Ken Follett, Jeffrey Archer, and John Jakes. I even like a little fantasy (A.R. Silverberry and Terry Brooks) and some religious fiction (Joel Rosenberg and Adina Senft). And I like my romances. Marina Adair doesn't have to take a backseat to any romance writer. In fact, her books have substance, great characters, and a good story. Marina, keep on keepin' on.

Sweet ending
By BookLover132
So we have Lexi, a divorcée to Marco's best friend, Jeffrey. She plays it safe and never listens to her wants and needs, rather she focuses on others. This was proved time and time again when she would go on blind dates set up by her grandmother, even though she doesn't want to.
And then we have Marco, a DeLuca and the "screw-up" of the family. I really, really liked Marco here. He was always trying to get Lexi to listen to her instincts and not to others, and unleash her wild side.
The first half of the book I didn't like so much. It was very annoying seeing Lexi constantly be pushed over by her grandmother and everyone else, never doing what she wanted to do. And Abigail--Marco's sister--was still annoying. When she found out that her best friend Lexi and her brother were dating, she flew off the handle. That part's understandable, I mean it's her best friend and her brother. But what really pissed me off was that, like the rest of the DeLuca family, she didn't think of Marco in the best light and said things about him that just made me want to throw something at her.
In fact, the whole DeLuca family didn't think much of Marco. They didn't think he would be good at his job and were constantly doubting his abilities. I just wanted to hit all of them upside the head.
But once Lexi let go a little bit and they started to hang out more and more, it got better. Much better. I loved how Lexi and Marco's relationship was so perfect and that they fit together so well. The happy moments between them were heart-melt worthy.
The conflicts that poor Lexi had to go through--including the no-good, cheating ex of hers--made me feel like the poor woman deserved a medal. And the way Marco made up for his mistakes and put Lexi first, that made me melt.
I loved the sweet ending that these two got and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Happily Entranced and Happily Surprised!
By Tash50Tash50
It has heart, and I don't mean romance heart, which of course it does contain...I mean you can feel the writer's heart in her creation.
She effortlessly captures your interest by taking the traditional ingredients of a romance novel and blending in copious amounts of humor, truly interesting characters, amazingly strong secondary characters, fabulous descriptions, and wonderful dialogue and dashes of story lines which not only flow well but could be great stories by themselves. She does this last part without detracting from the story line you are reading. I think it is high praise when you finish reading a book and you start to wonder well what happened with so and so...I wonder what will or could happen to this person etc., but not in the, "menacing it feels incomplete way." But rather in the, "this was a book that peaked my interest enough to be thought provoking and my imagination has been ignited because of it."
Her secondary characters are genius. They lend so much to the story. Many of them you really find yourself wanting to know as much about as you do about your main characters. There are so many essential secondary characters in this book that are entertaining and valuable and really help to make this a truly endearing and successful book. Despite the amount of secondary characters, I had no trouble keeping track of who was who and what was what, that can happen when you have that many players/plots on stage. Well done.
The humor ranges from laugh out loud, making you smile, understated and even clever and witty. Of course since it's a romance there is also plenty of sassy humor as well.
I enjoyed the fact that the author didn't fall back on or heavily rely on overly descriptive sex acts to be the foundation of her writing. There are some scenes of course but it’s not like reading some romances novels which seem to be just soft pornography hidden by a "love story." I don't want to sound prudish. I'm not. But I enjoy reading a book that has a plot that revolves around more than just how many different ways you can describe body parts or acts. This book gives you meat but doesn't make you choke on it.
The story itself is very sweet and witty. It has nice twists, some a little predictable some that surprise you...but none that are unpalatable. There is a lot about this book that makes it enjoyable. The only element that was slightly less than stellar was the semi-weak will of the heroine. But the book explains why this is and if she wasn't weak willed then many of the plot aspects couldn't have occurred as they did. But the "hero" balanced her out nicely despite being the stereotypical "playboy." Sometimes things aren't always what they seem does tend to be an ongoing theme in this book.
All and all very, very enjoyable read that I went through in one evening. (I also liked that it wasn't only 150 odd pages like some stories. You actually had a chance to get to know and like, love or hate the characters.)
I look forward to reading more from this author and will mostly likely buy her other books review unread until I have a reason not to. That again, for me, is high praise. I think there is a little something for everyone in this book.
I have purchased the prequel and will be reading it this evening and await the third book in the series. After I'm done with the prequels, I will begin reading her other works.
I suggest this book and can't fathom the one and two star ratings it received however; there is no such thing as 100% of people liking the same thing. Take a chance and read this.
