This is a wonderful legend from the time of the Aryan ancestors that is little known in the Western world.

The author, Porus Homi Havewala, born in India, is descended from the Aryan forefathers who settled in Iran. A group of Aryans, known as Parsi Zoroastrians, migrated to India after the Arab conquest of Iran in order to preserve their ancient Aryan religion. The aim of the author in writing this book is to inspire his fellow Aryan Zoroastrians, especially the young, with faith and righteous pride in their religion, like their Aryan ancestors in ancient times, as well as to educate others about the remarkable history and beliefs of the Aryan peoples.

A wonderful book I was lucky to get and immediately loved.

I received this book through a mail order service and immediately fell in love with "George" and the good doctor. I always like older men/younger women stories and this is a gem. Dr. Mallory is a wonderful, kind, caring man who is absolutely besotted with "George" who is charming, beautiful and a model. She is looking for love and finds it in Dr. Mallory, even though he is plagued by guilt at their age difference. He is sure he is robbing her of her youth and experiences she is yet to have. She is sure she's in love. This book is funny, romantic, erotic and very hopeful for all of us that we can find a Dr. Mallory (though mine would have to be 58).
I couldn't write to Catherine Coulter fast enough to tell her how much I loved it. She was kind enough to write back and tell me that the book was actually out of print. I then realized how truly lucky I am to have it...then it was reissued. Such is life. I still feel blessed. Highly recommended for a marvelous happy, light read. I would love to see a series along the same vein, but I'm dreaming.

This is not the ORIGINAL Aftershocks as written in 1985 and not as GOOD!!

I have Aftershocks the original book by Ms. Coulter and when this "Revised""Intermix" came out on Kindle, I thought "Oh, boy one of favorites" and I bought it. I was sorely disappointed......this one is not nearly as good. I'll not go into the storyline because I reviewed the original and you can read it on "see all my reviews" site. I gave this a 3 stars because the story is the same. The big problem with this revision is some of the original very funny lines between the heroine, George and the hero, Elliot have been changed. For instance; Elliot invites George over to his place for a barbecue and in the original book, when she accepts she asked "What's your speciality?" He winked and replied "It's called foreplay, George." Funny. Right? In the revised edition His reply is "wait and see". Wait and see! What the HECK is funny about that? This is not the only funny dialouge that changed, therefore to me, it made the story bland. My advice is.......find the original book!!! You will enjoy it a lot better. It is the high 5 not this one.

Just my kind of romance!

This is the story of a hunky orthopedic surgeon, and a beautiful, athletic young woman. They are drawn to each other but of course hero is older and fights the attraction. She has so much to learn, but so does he. I loved it! It is not a May December romance in my eyes because she's early 20's and he's miiddle 30's, but he is at least 10 years older. Don't let the negative reviews fool you. It's not what you think about smoking and booze towards the end. Just a little immaturity. Got you thinking I bet!? All you romantics out there give this book a read.

This study of American women in the 17th and 18th centuries by historian Carol Berkin gives close attention to the lives of several women like Mary, who was brought to Virginia as a slave in 1622. She married another African, Antonio, and over the course of their 40-year marriage, they earned their freedom and established a 250-acre plantation before moving to Maryland in search of new land. Other black women were not so lucky and, as time progressed, laws restricting black freedom were codified. This study uses legal and other types of records to illuminate the lives and experiences of these and other black, white, and Native American women.

This academic study by Berkin (Women of America: A History), a history professor at Baruch College in New York City, examines the lives of 17th- and 18th-century women from a feminist perspective that focuses on gender and class. Employing excellent research skills, the author documents the lives of white as well as Native American and African American women in their diverse roles as wives, mothers, widows, employed workers and slaves. Although the complexity of the subject often yields more questions than answers about how women negotiated their lives, Berkin has made a notable contribution by utilizing recent scholarship to address family life in the mid-Atlantic and Southern colonies as well as in the much studied New England settlements. Along the way, Berkin explores immigration to the Colonies and the multiple roles played by women as "housewives" during the era. The final chapter is a bibliographical essay. Excellent Study, Encompassing Many Regions, Groups

Carol Berkin offers informative essays on women in different ethnic and regional cultures of colonial America. The life story of a woman from each of the groups considered lends character and definition to this excellent scholarly work. African-American women, Native American women, and Anglo-American women in New England and the Chesapeake are among those considered. As New Amsterdam became New York, women of Dutch descent experienced major changes in their legal rights. Berkin's treatment of this transition from Dutch to English law exemplifies her fascinating and informative style.
The study ends with a discussion of women's lives during the American Revolution, including the moving stories of women who lost their fortunes or their lives in that struggle. The biographies of martyrs, however, do not eclipse a good discussion of the everyday lives of women during the conflict. Berkin also examines how the logic of democratic revolution, strangely, did not extend to women's rights.
Berkin has made an indispensable contribution to colonial history, women's history and ethnic history.

Excellent Women's History

So many history books are dry and difficult to read. This was the exact opposite. Carol Berkin breathes life into the dim periods of early Colonial American history. Although she often has little more details than land records, birth, marriage, and death dates (and in some cases, not even that) Berkin is able to paint a vivid picture of what it might have been like for the strong women who, willingly or not, helped to create America. Berkin is an equal opportunity historian -- each chapter of her book focuses on a particular strata of female colonial society: Native America women, African American women, poor white immigrant women, and wealthy women. In this way, the reader gets a full picture of the diverse cultural groups that existed from the earliest days of Colonial America. There are also some real surprises (I wont spoil them for you) which leads the reader to believe that life in Colonial America was much more complex and unpredictable than you might have thought. This book was both educational and entertaining and I highly recommend it.

Interesting information; narrowly focused text

This book was a required text for a course at my University on the social history of American women. While the information contained in this book was interesting (there isn't a lot out there about women during the Colonial period, though there is plenty about men), it was very narrowly focused. A significant portion of the book talks about the women of the Chesapeake, which is interesting, but not as comprehensive as I would have liked. I understand that this is because more information survives about women of that area, but it still felt like that should have been taken into account in the title of the book, so readers would have a better idea of what they were getting.

I did enjoy the discussion of Native American women included in the text, though some passages felt dismissive of the culture and quickly returned to white women. The Native Americans seemed included only as far as they contextualized the lives of whites.

All in all, it was an interesting book with good information, though the tone and density of the text was sometimes difficult to slog through. I found myself skimming and skipping pages oftener than I did other texts on the same subject.

Drop-dead gorgeous or drop-dead guilty? When show girl Sasha Brozynski arrived at the chapel for her best friend's wedding, the bride had disappeared without a trace and the identity of the groom was unknown. Nick Donatelli, son of a crime boss, had a reputation as a ladykiller. As a matter of fact, two of his ex-girlfriends had been murdered. Furthermore, he'd been involved with the missing bride.
Sasha would do anything to find her friend... even seduce a dangerous male.

I liked the story. Sasha has just gone through some serious, scary things lately and her close friend JoJo helped her recover. Now that same friend is missing but no one seems to be taking Sasha's concerns about her seriously. So even though she's scared she starts investigating on her own. The first thing she does is try to get a job at the same nightclub that JoJo had worked at. From there she figured it would be easier to ask questions and scope out the area. Unfortunately, it also places her so much closer to Nick Donatelli, the owner. He's hot, gorgeous and has his eye on her. He knows she's up to something because of course in his experience all women are. Yes, he knows she's looking for her friend but what else is she up to? That's what he is wondering but he's willing to play along for awhile because he likes what he sees. Sasha is so confused, there are so many conflicting ideas about Nick and his family. She's afraid to get any closer because of that and the fact that she is attracted strongly to Nick as well. I liked Sasha, she just never gave up when it came to looking for the truth. This story had some really good mysteries and red herrings when t came to "who is good and who isnt". There were plenty of people with their own motives, that really kept me going as to what happened to JoJo and whodunit. There were several villians in the story without being confusing.

Great story, believable characters, and I wanted more ... and Patricia Rosemoor gives you with additional stories in this series. There were times, my heart was racing with the romance and the mystery, and danger!!!

Too much filler!

i have been a fan of WEB since his first book about the Corps. His research has been impeccable, and his sources right on. The others about the Army officers and the Philly cops are as well written. This one convinces me that the authors need to go to that new twelve-Step Group: On-and-on. All of the exhausting descriptions of politics, clothing, food, landscapes, etc got me to the point of yelling: GET ON WITH IT! Much less action than "Spymasters" (A great book, by the way) and more like "War an Peace." I realize that the authors are fascinated by all the Spanish and German descriptions but the endless repetitions of German and Spanish military ranks got in the way of the story and its continuity.
Sorry, guys but this book is far below your usual product.

It started with promise...

When I started reading the "Empire and Honor", I thought to myself that Daddy must be writing again or Junior is finally catching on. It had a familiar feel of older WEB Griffin works.

Sadly, after 150-200 pages, it suddenly tanked. I guess that is where Junior took over. Characters took wild and illogical mood/personality swings. Facts from previous books started changing. Major facts. Clete's sister's name changed. She had been called "Marjorie" since the first book in the series well into this book and then her name suddenly changed to "Marjie". Facts from the incident at Samborombón Bay suddenly changed in this book. Heck, Junior even refers to Gary Cooper in "High Noon". "High Noon" was made in 1952. This book takes place in 1945. Hey Junior - at least read the other book in the series and make a minimal effort to put some continuity into your books. Maybe consult a calendar from time to time as well.
There are also developments in the book that defy all logic. Why would The President of The United States entrust a secret a state secret that is so important that it would bring down his presidency to a curmudgeon septuagenarian from the opposite political spectrum whose only connection is that he happens to be Frade's grandfather? The storyline at time was so illogical that it was plain stupid.

I keep buying the WEB Griffin books, hoping that one might be up to snuff. From here on out, I'll read the books, but I'll buy them used for 99 cents.

One other thing...
It is very strange that very poorly written books that are published by G.P. Putnam's Sons (Penguin Publishing) have the same "reviewers" show up giving 5 star ratings on all their failed books.

I looked at some of these reviews and found this in one of them: "First of all I would like to thank xxxxxxx Books for providing this book to me in exchange for a review".

Take a look at WEB Griffin, Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler (all Putnam/Penguin). You will see the same reviewers show up time after time. It is also an interesting coincidence that each of these authors are now putting out sub par publications "co-written" by either their children or an unknown/lesser known writer. Looks to me like the publisher is trying to milk every penny out of a big name, even if it is disingenuous or even fraudulent.

One other thing...
The author started an annoying literary technique in "The Spymasters" (which may the the worst book written since the Phoenicians perfected the alphabet) where he has a character carry on a complete and separate conversation in his head while at the same time carrying on a conversation with other characters. It doesn't work.

I agree with several reviewers that the ending feels like several chapters are missing...I have ask Amazon to look into this, as well as the publisher...all to no avail, with standard BS (Auto Reply...too busy)...If this is an example of what Griffin writing is getting to...he will lose me as a "Big Fan". I think I read where Clive Cussler is sending Dirk Pitt to the southern tip of Argentina to follow up on a recent find of an old German Storch airplane & a German Submarine where found sunk into the ice with bodies everywhere waiting for the finish of the story...

Taken takes us back to where it all began with the Watcher's Trilogy. If you are unfamiliar with it, then picking up this book or Awakening, is a great place to start. That is really the beauty of this story.

Those familiar can pick up Taken, and get to know Ana and Athen even more. It's great because when a trilogy meets its end, we are left with wanting more of the characters we followed through their journey. This allows us to see them again, in a new story that is much connected with the world we loved.

If you are brand spanking new to it, think of it as a teaser. It will gripe you in, but it prepares you for the trilogy itself. In fact it pretty much leads right up to the opening of Awakening, the first in the Watcher's Trilogy. Yet at the same time, this story does not have to be read first.

It makes a wonderful starting point for those unfamiliar with Ana, Athen, Cyril, or Arie. They are the white demons, angels, helping to protect and guide mankind. The group, like others of their kind, made the choice. It is classic good vs. evil, and the prizes at stake are human souls. If the white demons fail, the humans lose, and more darkness is created. If they prevail, the humans are spared, and life goes on.

This story brings us forward, showing us life before the Awakening, and the events that led up to it. We get a sneak peak at the undying love that is exchanged, but also the power and strength of it. In between are Ana and the gang as their usual dark demon, butt-kicking selves as they attempt to disrupt another massive plan of the underworld.

Taken - Love This Prequel

It's no secret that I love this series (you can read about that here), and this book is no different! I am a huge fan of novellas and prequels, especially when it comes to a series. I like reading about the characters' pasts and how they got to where they were in the start of a series.

In Taken, you learn about what happened to Ana before the start of The Watchers Trilogy. I am not going to even go into the plot on this book because it will give too much away about the series it was written for.

Personally, I think that you should read the trilogy first, and then read this book. You could read this first, but it will take away from the surprise in Awakening, and I feel that you wouldn't think it is as good as it truly is! Five stars for this book, my friends!

Where it all began

Going back to where it all it began this novella is a must read for fans of the Watcher's trilogy. It also makes a wonderful starting point for those unfamiliar with Ana, Athen, Cyril, or Arie. They are the white demons, angels, helping to protect and guide mankind.

This story brings us forward, showing us life before the Awakening, and the events that led up to it. We get a sneak peak at the undying love that is exchanged, but also the power and strength of it. In between is Ana and the gang as their usual dark demon, butt-kicking selves as they attempt to disrupt another massive plan of the underworld.

It is an adventure to love for those who have read the Watcher's trilogy, and wanted more. For anyone just beginning the journey, it makes for a quick introductory that entertains, pulls you in, and makes you crave more.

I absolutely love her style of writing.

I get it!

I finally get why Gavin was included in Derailed and while I didn't care for him in that story I absolutely love him in Veer. Alyssa Rose Ivy is the best. I'm not sure why I expected any different because I absolutely love her style of writing. I can literally finish her books in a couple of hours because I can't put them down!

Becca, Molly's friend from college from Derailed comes to Clayton Falls to get away from a life that's sort of crumbling down around her and she needs a break. The very first person she meets on her way is Gavin when her car dies on the highway. They don't exactly hit it off, but since the books are from their perspectives you get to see what they're thinking and I love that about how Ivy writes. Because even though the characters aren't sure what the other is thinking, we as the reader know.

One of the best parts of this story though is getting to see new sides of old characters. We learn so much about Gavin in this book, where he comes from, and why he is the way he is. We also get to see another side of Jake, which is awesome. He forms this completely platonic bond with Becca and I absolutely love how protective he is of her. I'm going to skip over his drunken moment of insanity and say that their friendship was one of my favorite parts of this book.

I know I've been gushing about Gavin, but I really enjoyed Becca's character to and god there were some points where I just felt so bad for her that all I wanted to do was give her a hug! She seems a little jumpy throughout the book, but when we finally find out why well who can blame her?

The Clayton Falls series is absolutely one of my favorites. I think the only character I didn't love in this book was Matt, the lawfirm guy. I wanted to ring his neck every time he put his hands on Becca, what a creeper! But I love how realistic the situation was. There are some people out there who abuse the power they have and one thing about Ivy is she always puts her characters in these very real, very intense situations and I love it.

There are quite a few twists and turns and a moment or two where I want to slap Gavin and be like really? Don't be an idiot. There were also times I wanted to slap Becca too, but that's all part of the story and it's seriously worth the read. This is a series I like so much I'll be buying in paperback and trust me a book has to be super amazing for me to get a hard copy because I have like no bookshelf space.

Oh, we also get to see Molly and Ben and things that are happening in their relationship. Definitely a few surprises there! And the ending...god the ending was so beautiful that I squealed like a thirteen year old girl. I want to draw pink fluffy hearts around this story. I cannot wait until the next installment in the Clayton Falls series because I'm so in love with these books!

An honest admission, a groaned escaped the moment it was revealed that Gavin was featured in this book. His arrogant pushy attitude during Derailed was outlandish...so wasn't looking forward to reading an entire book featuring him. It was going to take a lot to redeem him, but the author was successful - while maintaining his original characteristics. Becca's character was written as a charismatic, strong, yet vulnerable woman who irritated the HELL out of Gavin --- she instantly won my vote!

Looking forward to Wrecked; Jake's story

My thoughts on Veer:

POSITIVE POINTS:
+ The way Ms. Ivy seamlessly brings new characters into her stories while keeping the well loved characters in play.
+ Watching the relationship between Becca and Gavin evolve - you can't help but fall in love with them as a couple.
+ The believable way in which the characters are written. If you can't see some of yourself in them, you certainly know someone like them.
+ The fact that Veer is written from two different viewpoints - Becca's and Gavin's - it allows you to see more into their characters. How they feel, why they act the way they do - things that you would missed if the book only focused on one viewpoint.

That all being said, I absolutely cannot wait to read the third installment of The Clayton Falls series (tentatively titled Wrecked), as I want to know what happens next!
