Better than the first

This is Shayne and Dani's story. I have to say I liked it better than the first, but am sort of afraid I gave it 4 stars just because I was expecting so little. Shayne and Dani meet at Dani's mother's birthday party (which is being thrown by Shayne's company). They end up making out in a closet and then Dani leaves and sees someone get shot. She runs back in and tells Shayne and he sort of believes her.
Ok, here is part I didn't like - Shayne thinks Dani is crazy because her family says she is.... HOWEVER - they pretty much say she is crazy for turning down a trust fund and for being different than them. It doesn't sound like they mean really crazy (like imagine dead people). Shayne seemed sort of - you stupid over reacting female and me big strong smart man. I didn't like that. The other thing - Dani was just a little too accident prone for me - OK, so her hair doesn't stay up (mine doesn't either), and ok, her shoes aren't perfect, but come on - for them to break, for her to leave her jacket, her car to break, blah blah blah... was just a little too much for someone who is supposed to be smart enough to work at a zoo. Also, some of the characters were pretty flat. Especially her friend. Also, bad guy - no surprise at all. Wonder why Shayne or someone didn't figure it out earlier.
So now that I have completely trashed the book and made it seem like I hate it (which I didn't) let me tell you what I did like about it. It was a quick light read - I read it in about an hour and a half. It keeps moving and there are some funny moments. Also, Shayne and Dani are better about not having sex while being pursued and shot out (which is a plus). Dani wasn't an idiot which I liked although she was pretty stubborn in a bad way. Shayne was a pretty good guy and I liked him for the most part. All in all, not the best book I've ever read, but a good light read for a day at by the pool, at the beach or maybe on a plane.
